About CSS

The Climate Solutions Society is a non-profit initiative created by Ryan Honary, a student, entrepreneur, and climate activist who is passionate bringing students together to solve climate-related problems.

Empower the next generation of STEM enthusiasts to innovate and implement solutions to address climate change. We believe in harnessing the brilliance of young minds, fostering their entrepreneurial spirit, and equipping them with state-of-the-art tools to bring their transformative ideas to life.

A world where young individuals, regardless of their background, have the support and resources to contribute effectively to the combat against climate change. By creating a global community of youth-led chapters, we envision a network of change-makers who are not just the future, but the present leaders in crafting a sustainable world.

What We Do

Access to the right tools can turn an idea into reality. We furnish students with state-of-the-art tech, including Raspberry Pi systems, aiding them in hands-on projects and research. With support from the Samueli Foundation, we ensure that these resources are open and available to all.

Collaboration is at the heart of innovation. Our club chapters across schools serve as hubs where students come together, exchange ideas, and work cohesively on groundbreaking climate solutions.

We’re more than just an organization; we’re a movement. By partnering with global organizations and experts, we amplify our reach, ensuring our solutions resonate on both local and global scales.

Our Backstory

2018

Concept

News coverage of the devastating Camp Fire in California inspires Ryan Honary to begin work on an early detection system. He developed an AI-driven Wireless Mesh Sensory Network capable of detecting wildfires at the spark and notifying authorities.

2018-2020

Development

Ryan continues developing the system, earning numerous awards and recognitions in the process, including a Naval Science Award from the Office of Naval Research (ONR), and a recommendation to apply for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant.

2021

SensoryAI

After submitting a proposal for the SBIR grant, Ryan launches SensoryAI, a startup committed to furthering the research and development of his system. The project received two rounds of funding through the Office of Naval Research.

2022

IRC

Ryan partners Irvine Ranch Conservancy to conduct large scale testing with his system and receives $250,000 in funding from the organization for continued R&D. Working closely with the IRC team, Ryan began exploring numerous applications for his technology beyond wildfires.

2022

OCFA

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) gets involved in Ryan's project, with Chief Brian Fennessy joining the joint SensoryAI and IRC team as an advisor. "This technology has enormous potential to keep our first responders and our communities safe," said Chief Fennessy.

2023

LearningPlanet

Ryan is invited to speak at LearningPlanet Festival hosted by LearningPlanet Institute and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris. During his presentation, he announces his plans for Climate Solutions Society.

2023

CSS Launch

The Climate Solutions Society officially launches with its inaugural chapter at Newport Harbor High School to further Ryan's mission to expand access to STEM education and give students the opportunity to create tangible solutions for combatting climate change.
